PASTOR JEFF'S PONDERINGS

One tough week...

3/27/2015

Our lives very easily fill up with the "have-to-do's" and the "want-to-do's".  Rarely do we simply slow down enough to think and wonder.  And yet a true sense of wonder is critical to appreciating the love of God as demonstrated through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross.

Beginning this Monday evening, March 30th, you'll have the opportunity to do just that by participating in our Journey to the Cross prayer experience.  Each evening from 6:00-9:00 the church will be open for you to work your way through 12 stations that focus on Jesus' final week leading up to his crucifixion.  This self-guided time will take you from 30-60 minutes.  Here's a brief video from last year's Journey.
I hope you and your family will have a chance to experience the Journey to the Cross.  And please share it with your friends - all are welcome.

Feeling a little stiff...

Tami and I got a dog this past fall - a border collie we've named Augie (officially her name is Augusta Lucille Palmberg). She's 10-years-old and once belonged to Skip Smith's mother.  As a result of this addition to our family we've also had the addition of daily walks added to our schedule.  I've begun using it as a reason to get some regular physical exercise in the form of a jog as Augie runs along.  Before you get too impressed with me let me assure you that this is a very slo-mo jog! Nevertheless, I definitely feel the results in my lungs and legs.  I suppose I'm getting a bit more in shape each day, but I've got a long way to go!

We all have times when we feel the stiffness in our body due to a lack of exercise or some other ailment. The path of least resistance would have us just resign ourselves to  less movement and embrace the new reality of not moving that body part in that way.  It can become a handy excuse and enable our bad habits.

We've gotten into the life of Jesus in our journey through the story of scripture. As he begins his years of ministry, Jesus is establishing his authority as the Son of God through demonstrating his power to heal. In a few cases Jesus focuses his healing power in restoring health and movement to the arms and legs of some paralyzed individuals.  Even though most of us don't suffer from more than a little stiffness, if we're honest we recognize that there's some paralysis in each of our lives.  I hope you'll be able to join us this Sunday, March 8th, as we consider how Jesus is ready to heal us.
And remember that this Saturday night is the beginning of Daylight Savings Time: we'll be Springing forward by turning the clock ahead one hour.  Don't forget or you'll be rolling in in time to get in on the benediction and refreshments... unless that's your plan all along!
